The World of Ray & Charles Eames.

Yes...this is a flyer for an event that's already passed.

I decided to redesign this flyer based on the fact that the original design was manic, cluttered and in my opinion failed to represent the philosophies of Charles and Ray Eames. I don't really have a whole lot more to say about this one save for the fact that I'm happy the transparency effect turned out.

CoBrA Munny Packaging.

I guess first I'll start with a little bit of a backstory. I was introduced to the CoBrA in highschool and right away I fell in love with the aggressive line work and child-like aesthetic of the movement. I spent much of my senior year exploring and experimenting and it's something I still do on the side (which may seem odd considering the style of my other work.)

I started this project to be a birthday gift for my good friend Jeremy Sims who I am currently working with on a CoBrA exhibition that we're hoping will be opening sometime in November. I designed the Munny, the graphics for the packaging and the structure of the packaging itself.

For Jeremy I decided to paint one of the smaller Munnies; It makes mine look huge!

I actually started working on prototypes for the structure of the packaging over the summer. One of my main goals was to create a package that opens to allow a wide birth for the hand-painted toy which is quite susceptible to scratches. The end result is a package in which the top, front and bottom surfaces all open. What you see here is the final hand-cut prototype with some ideas on the placement of the graphics.

Above are the films for the finalized graphics. I elected to screenprint them on to the box rather than covering it with a wrap in order to retain the 'raw' aesthetic of the cardboard. Most of the graphics were design in illustrator and printed on duralar, but the drawing of the CoBrA character that the Munny was modeled after was hand-drawn on vellum.

So it's been a while since my last post, I've been busy getting settled again in Baltimore and getting into the swing of things. I have however, been hard at work and this is one of a few projects I've been working on in my spare time.

I apologize for the lack-luster photography, I plan to reshoot this when I get a chance.

I started screenprinting last spring, but it was mostly graphics for package designs. I'd tried my hand once or twice with posters but it was not until recently that I really got the chance to sit down and print something for myself.

Unless this is your first time ever seeing or hearing of my work, you know I'm a fan of white space and simple, clean design as well as the International Style and I feel that the subject matter of this print has great synergy with that aesthetic.

The text reads "Intelligent Design" which can be interpreted in more than one way, but anyone with an appreciation for Eames's furniture designs will get the joke (I hope)

In any case, I really enjoyed printing something that was truly me and expect to see more poster designs in the near future.

3 more weeks...

Classes are due to start soon and I must say I'm quite excited. I've been going a bit stir-crazy being at home this summer and not having access to things like a the Dolphin print studio and the lazer and vinyl cutters has resulted in a lengthy To-Do list of self-initiated projects. Hell, I would kill to have John print some of the vellums for these projects right now.

Actually thinking about it, just about all of my self initiated projects are at the printing stage, but I lack the facilities to print them.

Indeed the fall semester can't come soon enough.

More Record Sleeves - "Beauvoir"

Yet another record sleeve design. Cardif is my newest music project and falls in the realm of Dubstep. I decided to make it a split release with my main project, The Gray Earl to give Cardif a bit more exposure right off the bat.

Obviously this art is in the earliest of stages. The back panel still requires some fine detail kerning and two of the tracks haven't even been named yet. The overall feel of the design is more playful than that of the Dragonfly EP but I'm not so sure I like the flow of the front cover. I may switch "the" and "Cardif" as currently it seems to read "The Cardif, The Gray Earl, Beauvoir"

We'll see how this one develops.

Cover Art for the new Gray Earl Album "Dragonfly"

Above is the first rendition of the album art for my new EP "Dragonfly." I chose to go with an international style design for a number of reasons. In the past the art style of the gray earl has always been clean and simple and on a deeper level the music itself draws influence from many different sources and the sound isn't distinctive to any specific region or country.

The Mp3 release will most likely only include the cover art found on the front of the record sleeve and there are plans to release it in CD format as well.
