Thesis Progress - Final Stretch

So I meant to post an entry with photos of the binding, but during the process of actually doing it, I forgot to take pictures, so this entry will be the first look at the finished book for most of you.

I've been milling over the problem of packaging the CD that will hold a digital walking tour of the house. Originally this CD was supposed to simply be a digital version of the book that would be produced in a large number and available for people who visited the commencement show to take home with them. When I realized I wasn't participating in the commencement show I scrapped the original idea, but I still wanted some sort of digital companion for the book. A virtual tour of the house was suggested and I decided to go with that. What was original supposed to be many discs has been reduced to one and packaging it has been somewhat troubling. The solution I eventually came up with was simply packing it with the book and I'm pretty happy with the results.

The packing for the book is currently made of chipboard, but I'm not too thrilled with the material as it's started cracking on the scores and frankly it feels cheap. But you can at least get the idea of what I want to do through the images below.

All in all I'm pretty happy with how things have turned out, even though the final product is quite different from what I had originally planned. At this point all that is left to do is actually go about recording the virtual tour of the house and finding a suitable material for the packing.

Hooray!

::EDIT:: My friend Robin was nice enough to give me some disc hubs, which not only like nice and function better than the make-shift peg I've constructed, but they're self-adhesive and have a low profile. This expands my options in looking for a new material for the packing, yay!
